Life's struggles

One should strive to constantly search for knowledge and the truth.

Vanity

"...most people, when in prosperity, are so over-brimming with wisdom (however inexperienced they may be), that they take every offer of advice as a personal insult, whereas in adversity they know not where to turn, but beg and pray for counsel from every passer-by."

- Spinoza: Tractatus Theologico-Politicus

Simple logic

If there is 'after-life' then there has to be 'before-life'.
I do not remember any details of my before-life.
Therefore I do not think I will witness any after-life.

Marketing

1. You see a gorgeous girl in a party, you approach her and say: "I'm rich, marry me."
That's direct marketing.
2. Your friend goes to a girl, points at you and says: "He is very rich, marry him."
That's advertising.
3. Girl walks up to you and says: "You are rich, will you marry me?"
That's brand recognition.
4. You say: "I'm rich, marry me." and she slaps you.
That's customer feedback.
5. You say: "I'm rich, marry me." and she introduces you to her husband.
That's demand and supply gap.
6. Before anybody says anything your wife arrives.
That's restriction from entering new market.

Religion

"Nothing proves the man-made character of religion as obviously as the sick mind that designed hell, unless it is the sorely limited mind that has failed to describe heaven - except as a place of either worldly comfort, eternal tedium, or (as Tertullian thought) continual relish in the torture of others."

- Christopher Hitchens: God is not great

Fable?

"Are there dragons?" she asked. I said that there were not. "Have there ever been?" I said all the evidence was to the contrary. "But if there is a word dragon," she said, "then once there must have been dragons."

- Penelope Lively: Moon Tiger (as quoted by Christopher Hitchens in "God is not great")

Our sins

If the maker made us with all the faults and sins we possess and exhibit, why is he forbidding us from and punishing us for committing those same sins?
